The Capital Development Authority lodged an FIR against two contractors for issuing fake cheques worth Rs 15 million. The civic body had awarded the contract to the accused for running the Sabzimandi parking lot. The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) awarded the parking contract to Muhammad Mumtaz and Naveed Anjum on April 13, 2011. The contractors issued cheques to the CDA which were later proved to be fake. CDA Director Karamat Ullah lodged an application with the Abpara Police against the contractors.
The police registered an FIR on Saturday against the two contractors under section 489 F (for issuing bogus cheques). However, the contractors are still at large. On the other hand, a source in the CDA told Pakistan Today that the DMA officials were involved in the scam, as the contractors could not win the contract without the DMA’s consent. The scam was pointed out by the internal auditors of the civic agency.
