The country chief of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Ms Shadia Yousuf Bakhait on Thursday said Pakistani women possessed great creative skills that needed to be polished. “The UNIDO will continue to contribute to the creative industry of Pakistan by organising training workshops, seminars and events for women entrepreneurs,” she said. Bakhait said, “We will support Islamabad Expo 2012, being organised by Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) titled ‘Women in Creative Industry.’
The expo reinforces the idea of highlighting all the women, adding great value to this critical sector, she stated. “We will keep on designing new programmes for women through close cooperation with the IWCCI and other partners to ensure their capacity building and proper visibility, said UNIDO National Programme Coordinator Shahina Waheed. Samina Fazil said that female creative artisans as well as workers were underpaid and under-represented; they needed more encouragement, collaboration, networking, promotion and guidance.
