The largest port city of the country has been going through a kind of social change that gives birth to conflicts of emerging behavioural patterns against traditional social values.
This was stated by Arif Hasan while sharing his thoughts in an engaging talk titled “Changing Sociology of Karachi: Causes, Trends and Repercussions” held at The Second Floor (T2F) on Tuesday.
“Karachi is transforming from a cosmopolitan colonial port city to a multi-ethnic, multi-class megacity, so it is natural for it to witness a social change and the conflict between emerging behaviour patterns and traditional social values,” said the consultant of Orangi Pilot Project, which has garnered international acclaim.
Hasan is not only an architect, but also a teacher, social researcher and writer, who is renowned for his involvement with low-income settlement programmes.
The lecture was organised as part of the ongoing Yohsin Lecture Series arranged by Habib University Foundation. This was the third lecture of the series, which aims to provide a space for dialogue and inquiry and to promote academic discourse.
