Resuming hearing after 13 years on a petition filed by Air Marshall (r) Asghar Khan around 16 years ago against the distribution of millions of rupees by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) among anti-Pakistan People’s Party politicians to manipulate the 1990 elections, the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to ISI’s former director general Lt Gen (r) Asad Durrani, Ministry of Defence and the defunct Mehran Bank’s chief executive Younis Habib, directing them to file their replies by March 8. A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez, also directed its office to trace out the record pertaining to statements of former army chief General (r) Mirza Aslam Beg, interior minister Naseerullah Babar and Asad Durrani in the case in 1998 and produce it in sealed envelope on the next date of hearing. The court noted that the statements of Mirza Aslam Beg, Asad Durrani and Naseerullah Babar had been recorded in-camera, but the same were not available on the current record presented before it. The court also noted that according to May 27, 1998 order sheet, sealed cover report had been submitted on the working of ISI, thus it also be made available to the bench on the next hearing. The court noted that the presence of Asad Durrani during the case’ proceedings was imperative and directed that postal address of Mehran Bank’s chief executive Younis Habib be traced out and he be issued notice.

  1. Is SC pretending to offer a remedy (or even create a deterrence) to ISI's wrong doing?

    So fake…

    • I know we have seen these kinds of things in the past so many times that nothing comes out of it and it all turns out fake. BUT like new morning we should also hope for better.
May be this time around the truth will unveil in front of the whole nation.

  4. I am a very poor and weaker Pakistani who is deprived of justice since 1981,when my services were dispensed with Martial law Regulation no.52 in P.I.A without any proper justification.for that unconstitutional, harsh and jugle law,I submitted various petitions for rewal of my case. But unluckily due to involment of huge and unbelievable litigatios expenses,I could not be fought this case in the concerned courts. But still I am hopeful that the honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr.justice Ifitikhar Muhammad chaudhry is my last and final hope after Allah Taala, perhaps he may take Suo Moto Notices and do me the favour to get me re-instated in P.I.A with the possible least facilities.I once again request him to listen and ask the concerned authorities and deiced my case as I cannot wait more two or three decades for the final settlement of my case.I was working in Financial Services in P.I.A headoffice,Karachi as Accounts Assistant and my P.NO.IS 40239 and I will be obliged to be called on my cell.03004021667.I always and my family will pray for the glory of Mr.justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan. As he said in the previous days that the law is blind and is influential only on poors and weaker and not on bigs.Let us see how far his statement is true, whether he likes to listen the poor, weaker and handicapped effectee of Martial Law Regulation`s victums with great and Allah`s frightened dedications.

  5. I pray and hope Air Marshal(retd) Asghar Khan could see the justice procured from this court in the shortest possible time.
