The Sindh government has doubled the government jobs quota for disabled people and only the outstanding and qualified are being provided incentives as per their abilities, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Monday.
Talking to a delegation of the blind teachers of the province’s colleges that called on him at the Chief Minister’s House, Shah said all genuine problems faced by blind teachers and other disabled people will be solved on a priority basis.
Ms Hafiza, the head of the delegation, informed the chief minister that there are only eight college teachers in Sindh imparting education through the Braille method.
She said Braille classes were introduced in 1954 and however, at present, blind teachers are not being provided with facilities and promotions.
She further said that she is a double MA and PhD, but despite a long service, she has not been promoted.
SZABIST Secretary and Sindh Graduates Association Chairman Dr Suleman Sheikh said that disabled people, particularly teachers, are extending their services in very tough conditions and more incentives need to be extended to them.
Education Department Special Secretary Riaz Ahmed Memon presented a detailed briefing on the subject.
The chief minister directed that an urgent meeting of Law and Education departments and the officers concerned be held to solve the blind teachers’ issues and a meeting of the board be convened to finalise cases of promotions and other incentives.
