Former Pakistan pace bowler Sarfraz Nawaz speaking with PakPassion.net confirmed that he will be utilised as a fast bowling coach by the Pakistan Cricket Board ahead of next month’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh. “I have been asked by the Pakistan Cricket Board to work with the current group of fast bowlers who are involved in the international setup before they leave for the Asia Cup. The training camp is scheduled to start on 2nd March and I’m looking forward to working with the pace bowlers,” PakPassion quoted Sarfraz as saying. Nawaz, who last year served as one of the coaches assessing emerging fast bowling talent in a camp held in Lahore further added “Pakistan’s fast bowling resources are satisfactory, but certainly not great. The quick bowlers that Pakistan has at it’s disposal are decent, but there are areas of their bowling that each one of them can work on and improve. I can offer them advice, give them some technical suggestions too on their bowling that will help them. At the end of the day coaches can guide, advise and give player’s tips, then it’s down to the cricketers themselves to implement those suggestions.” Nawaz whose playing career spanned 18 years also feels that some of the current crop of international pace bowlers for Pakistan are lacking in confidence. “I don’t want to name individuals, but having seen some of the performances in the series against England, it is obvious that there are a couple of fast bowlers who are short on confidence and need some work done on their bowling. I will take a close look at them at the camp and point a few things out to them that I have observed. I don’t think the issues are serious and I am sure they will be ironed out. Sometimes with quick bowlers if they get the slightest thing wrong from a technical point of view, it can hinder their bowling. Technically there are some things that can be brushed up at the moment.”
