Newly-elected PPP MPA Syeda Waheeda Shah is likely to be disqualified by the ECP for slapping a female election official, Pakistan Today has learnt. According to sources, the commission decided to take exemplary action against Waheeda and there were certain chances of her disqualification. According to unofficial results, Waheeda was elected MPA from PS-53 Tando Muhammad Khan by bagging 30,191 votes. They said that the ECP will disqualify Waheeda after being expectedly disqualified by the court on a case filed against her. According to sources, a five-member election commission discussed the preliminary inquiry report of the incident and decided to disqualify the accused lady. Separately, the ECP withheld the result of by-polls of PS-53.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Hamid Ali Mirza directed Returning Officer Ali Asghar Sial to take notice of the matter under section 86A of the Representation of People Act, 1976 and hold inquiry (summary trial), hear the necessary parties and pass the orders. He said that on a complaint received from Mushtaq Talpur, another contesting candidate for PS-53 by-elections, the commission issued notices to all parties to appear before the commission on March 6. The commission also directed the Sindh IG to proceed against the policemen who failed to perform their duty.

Also, the ECP withheld the result of by-elections for PS-53 Tando Muhammad Khan. According to a notification, the returning officer was also directed to present the inquiry report in one week.
