Ali Zafar has already made a mark in B-Town with two hits (‘Tere Bin Laden’ and ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’) to his credit. The singer-turned-actor will now perform at the national finale of the Clean and Clear The Times of India Fresh Face 2011 contest on February 24. The actor with the soulful voice, also known as the Prince of Pop in Pakistan, has been living out of a suitcase these days. One of the Times 50 Most Desirable Men of 2011, Ali rose to fame in 2003 with his smash hit ‘Channo’, and recently released another album titled ‘Jhoom’. His track ‘Madhubala’ from ‘Mere BrotherKi Dulhan’ topped the charts last year and now the song ‘London to Paris, Paris to New York’ is becoming a rage. Ali still gets excited at the prospect of performing live.
“It’s the best way to stay connected with the audience and with yourself. While working on albums or movies, I don’t get to interact with the audience, but when I am on stage there’s no barrier between us. This kind of interaction is very important for an artiste. It’s a different high.” He has fond memories of his first live performance. “That was right after my first album released. I was backstage and didn’t have any idea what was going on. When I stepped on stage, there was an ocean of people in front of me.” Ali says he loves interacting with the crowd when he is on stage. “A concert shouldn’t be boring.
At no point should the performer lose connection with the audience. My priority is to ensure that the people present at the concert should leave with beautiful memories. It should be among the best evenings of their lives.” Besides acting, Ali has also been busy writing lyrics, composing and singing for his next movie. “I don’t leave anything-like recording or arranging-to others. There have been times when I have been shooting at one end of a studio and recording at the other end. It’s not an easy job, but I am a workaholic so I enjoy every bit of it.”
