LAHORE – The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is releasing water from the reservoirs according to the indents issued by the Indus River System Authority (IRSA).
In the wake of annual canal closure, water releases from the reservoirs have been drastically reduced and WAPDA is strictly following the IRSA indents for both Mangla and Tarbela reservoirs and elsewhere.
It said, “The water releases from Mangla with effect from December 26, 2010 to January 12, 2011 were 10,000 cusecs as per the IRSA indent. However in case of Tarbela, the IRSA issued different directives for different dates. It was 30,000 cusecs for December 25, 2010; 20,000 cusecs from December 26, 2010 to January 5, 2011; 15,000 cusecs for January 6 & 7, 2011; 10,000 cusecs from January 8 to 10, 2011 and 15,000 cusecs for January 11 and 12, 2011. Also from Tarbela, WAPDA released water strictly in accordance with the IRSA indents, as mentioned above”.
