Prime Minister (PM) Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday directed Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah to take effective measures to curb law and order situation in the province, particularly in Karachi. Saturday saw the PM trying to counter-balance a visibly-welcome political summersault by MQM’s Babar Ghauri, who had earlier refused to deliver a speech from a bulletproof rostrum set by Karachi Port Trust during a groundbreaking ceremony at the Karachi port. The PM asked Shah and Sindh Governor Isratul Ebad Khan, “The law and order issue is the responsibility of the CM. Street crimes should be overcome.” Gilani’s directives came in response to Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri’s request to the increasing ratio of street crimes in Sindh as well as Karachi. In his address Ghauri said the rising number of street crimes in the province must be brought to the PM’s notice. “Efforts made earlier have not proven effective,” the MQM leader said. Further, Ghauri received a visible applause from the well-attended gathering by not speaking from the bulletproof rostrum. “I will speak from a place that is closer to you,” Ghauri told media when given the microphone.

  1. There is 4 page article published this week in TIME magazine, USA, on "Karachi and Law & Order Situation in Karachi". The article is well researched and well written. It tells about the role of MQM (obviously negative) and the role of ANP in recent years in Karachi.
