The Narcotics Affairs section of the US embassy on Wednesday handed over two ambulances, vans, radios and other equipment to Islamabad police for women police station.
John Danilowicz, director, Narcotics Affairs Section at the US embassy, handed over equipment, including ambulances, vans, radios and first-aid kits, to the women’s police station and female officers, during a ceremony at the Islamabad Police Lines on Wednesday. “Female police are a critical and growing part of Islamabad’s law-enforcement agency and the US embassy is honoured to be a partner with them,” said Director Danilowicz. “This equipment will help increase capacity of the female police. They needed the tools to do their jobs and keep Islamabad safe,” he added.
The equipment donated includes two ambulances, two buses, two vans, two motorcycles, 64 helmets, 20 first-aid kits, 10 handheld radios, two mobile radio sets, and a battery charger. The equipment handover is part of a larger US government programme to assist female police across Pakistan. The women’s police programme was initiated in 2011 and is designed to assist female police in developing their professional capacity by imparting training and providing equipment and infrastructure. To date, the US government has allocated $5million to the programme. Previous training sessions have educated the female police on operating police vehicles and using computers.
