The upcoming residential-cum-commercial project of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on the Karachi-Hyderabad Superhighway – the DHA City Karachi (DCK) – is all set to graduate from the planning stage into development on ground stage after completion of its master plan.
Tenders for major development works under the immediate development plan have mostly been awarded, while the mobilisation of contractors to the project site has started and the construction and development process of the project is ready to take off.
On Wednesday, DHA Administrator Brig Aamer Raza Qureshi visited the project site to review DCK development plans on ground.
At the site, he was briefed by the DCK Project Director and Consultant Engineer Arif Usmani about the construction and designing details of the seven-lane DCK Entrance Gate, an adjacent Theme Park and an Outlet Mall being built astride the Superhighway.
The DHA administrator was also informed about the engineering and construction details of the DCK boundary wall, security towers, information centre, staff accommodation projects; all to be built in two years to make DCK a liveable entity.
On the occasion, Qureshi announced that the formal ground breaking ceremony of DCK will be held in the third week of February 2012 that will set the pace for development of the first planned, sustainable and green city of Pakistan.
He also gave necessary instructions on the development projects being initiated to make them viable and versatile in nature.
The DHA administrator was informed that the boring work for exploration of groundwater was going on successfully and the results were encouraging as there is abundance of drinking quality underground water in DCK, sufficient to cater for future requirements until 2020.
The DCK is being developed in the backdrop of natural landscaping and there is plenty of wind and sunshine available in the spacious open area of the city for production and development of renewable solar and wind energy. Qureshi was also shown the planned projects of road network, sectors, parks and amenities being developed under the short-term development plan to be completed in three to four years so that people can start living in the area.
DCK Project Director Brig (retd) Muhammad Rafique disclosed that balloting of plots would be held very soon to allot the plots numbers to the allotees who have paid up-to-date instalments of their plots.
He added that 10 percent discount on the price of plots would be given to all those allotees who will pay all the plot instalments in lump sum amount.
The DHA administrator asked the consultants, contractors and DCK staff to leave no stone unturned in developing the new remarkable city, unique in its land, in the most professional manner and maintain the reputation of DHA – a trendsetter in the field of housing and community living.
