The widow of Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) Chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto has decided to appear in the Supreme Court (SC) in the next hearing of the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto retrial case as the “heir” of the founder of PPP.
This was decided at a meeting of the Bhutto clan held at the 70-Clifton to discus the various issues facing the Bhutto family in and outside Pakistan. The leaders of All-Pakistan Bhutto Welfare Association (APBWA) also attended the meeting.
According to APBWA General Secretary Hameed Bhutto, it was decided that Ghinwa and her children will appear before the SC as the heirs of ZA Bhutto “because the Chief Justice of Pakistan in his observation had asked about the heirs of the PPP founder”.
ZA Bhutto was hanged in 1979 after a SC verdict, termed “judicial murder” by a large section of politicians and jurists.
Last year, President Asif Ali Zardari had sent a reference seeking the retrial of the ZA Bhutto case, which culminated in a long-debated guilty verdict over three decades ago – ultimately resulting in the hanging of the country’s first elected prime minister in 1979.
The presidential reference contended that the late party chairman was not given justice and the courts today should correct this.
The PPP government has thrown its entire political weight behind the case. At least 50 PPP stalwarts were present in the court on the first day of the hearing.

  1. sanam bhutto is the direct heir to ZABhutto. ms.ghinwa and her daughter fatima bhutto who ''claims '' to reject heriditary/dynastic politics now wanst to use the case to be in the news once again. otherwise , when it comes to national or regional politics , ghinwa and her party have lost miserably in all elections .
