Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Monday that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) government believes on the supremacy of judiciary and rule of law which the Prime Minster has proved.
Talking to journalists outside the Parliament, the minister said the government would follow constitutional parameters and hoped that all institutions would remain in their respective domains.
She said that Yousaf Raza Gilani had become the first prime minister in the history of the country who appeared in the Supreme Court twice.
“He will keep respecting courts and their decisions,” she said adding “the PPP has sacrificed a lot for revival of this judiciary and for strengthening the institutions.”
She said a perception had been created that the government would not obey the orders of the Supreme Court, which had nothing to do with reality.
Responding to a question regarding future strategy of the PPP including Senate elections, she said that all decisions would be taken in consultation with the allied political parties.
However, PPP, along with its coalition partners, would attain majority in Senate and general elections, she added.
To another question, she said that no meeting had been held between the government and coalition partners to decide for the next prime minister. There were few elements that were spreading rumours to create political instability in the country, she added.
