Afghan forces, backed by NATO-led coalition troops, have killed seven armed insurgents and detained 18 other suspects over the past 24 hours, the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
“Afghan police, army and coalition forces launched nine joint operations in Kabul, Helmand, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost, Paktia and Herat provinces over the past 24 hours,” the ministry said in a statement.
“As a result of these operations, seven armed insurgents were killed, two wounded and 18 others were arrested,”it said.
The joint forces also seized a handful of weapons in the operations, it said.
Afghan officials often use the word “insurgents” referring to Taliban. However, the insurgent group, who launched in May 2011 a rebel offensive against Afghan and NATO forces, has yet to make comments.
