At least two people were killed and five injured in a grenade attack at the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) office in Lyari on Wednesday night.
The office was located near Jadgal Chowk, Faqir Muhammad Dura Khan Road, in the precincts of the Kalakot police station.
The bodies and the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). Kalakot SHO Azam Gopang told Pakistan Today that the two victims, Dad Rehman, 35, and Haji Soomar, 45, were activists of the PPP.
The injured included a 13-year-old unidentified boy, Qasim, 45, Naseem, 35, Robina, 45, and Nazia, 18.  The police said four men on two motorcycles threw a hand grenade at the PPP office and escaped.
A bomb disposal squad team reached the spot and after an hour-long search, collected evidence and samples of the grenade. Following the attack, a large number of Lyari residents gathered there to protest against the law enforcement agencies.
City Town SP Nasir Aftab told Pakistan Today that a Russian-made hand grenade was used in the attack. He said Dad Rehman and Haji Soomar, who were sitting outside the office, were the targets. The office was partially damaged in the attack.
South SSP Naeem Ahmed Sheikh told Pakistan Today that it would be premature to hold anyone responsible for the attack. “The bomb disposal squad team has collected evidence from the spot and will present its report after an examination,” he added.
