The month of February usually means the start of spring and cold weather receding in Karachi, but the persistent chill in the city this time around is being seen as an effect of global climate change by experts. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted on Monday that the cold weather will continue in most parts of the country including Karachi until Tuesday (today) evening due to the presence of a shallow westerly wave that emerged on Sunday and is still looming over Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas. According to its weather advisory, Karachi witnessed an average 14 degrees Celsius on Monday with the lowest temperature recorded at seven degrees Celsius, which is rare in the city. Weather experts and environmentalists are of the view that climate change has extended the period of seasons.
