CM grants Rs 2 million to book fairs

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced a grant of Rs 2 million for the Lahore International Book Fair Trust on Friday. The CM was addressing the inaugural ceremony of 26th Lahore International Book Fair at Expo Centre, Johar Town. He said that education was the key to elimination of poverty, unemployment, terrorism and extremism and to transform the country in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. He announced a grant of Rs two million for the LIBF Trust and said that the theme of the fair, “Peace for all, Education for all”, has to be spread to every corner of the country, adding that the intolerance in the society could be removed through education and awareness among the people.
He said that the Punjab government has taken unprecedented measures for the uplift of education sector, including the establishment of IT labs in over 4,000 schools at a cost of Rs 5 billion and distribution of laptops among talented students. The CM said that over 110,000 would receive laptops by the end of March, 2012. LIBF Trust Chairman Zubair Saeed, in his welcome address, said that the purpose of holding the book fair was to promote the habit of reading. He said that the education fair was being arranged under the auspices of the Punjab Textbook Board.
