The fresh spell of rain that started from Friday will continue till Monday in Islamabad/Rawalpindi and upper areas of the country. According to Pakistan Meteorology Department (PMD), the current spell of rain will continue during the next 72 hours and heavy snow fall is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit, and Northern Areas while areas in Southern Punjab will receive light rain. The official said the spell of rain started from Friday in Balochistan, especially in the Northern Areas of the province, including Quetta, Ziarat and Pasheen. He said Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and many areas of Balochistan will receive light rain during the next 24 hours. Met Office informed that a fresh westerly wave, presently giving rains over western Iran, is heading towards Pakistan that would grip western parts of the country on Friday. Under the influence of this weather pattern, scattered rains with snowfall over the hills are expected over Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Saturday to Monday.
This weather system is likely to produce heavy snowfall over the hills of Galliyat and Murree during the coming weekend.
A cold wave is expected to grip most parts of the country during the weekend, and cold weather is likely to prevail in the country during the next week.
The barani areas of the country are likely to receive good rainfall during the period that would be useful for the standing crops.
Met office further informed that 2-3 spells of rain/snowfall are expected during the month of February. “Current spell of rain is very beneficial for the wheat crops in arid agriculture areas of Punjab, KPK and Balochistan,” the official predicted.
