LAHORE – The fixed match between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would continue until the next budget session, Punjab Opposition Leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said on Monday. He was talking to journalists outside the Punjab Assembly. The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader said that the next match between the two allies would start after the 2011 annual budget. He termed the political mayhem between the PPP and the PML-N as a “fixed match”. Zaheer said that plot of the “political chaos” was prepared with consultation of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and both the parties succeeded in getting the desired results and the public was once again left waiting for relief.
Replying to a question about the Unification Bloc in the provincial assembly, he said that the group wanted to enjoy powers of the government by extending support to the PML-N government while claiming to be in the opposition. Zaheer said that if the Unification Bloc wanted to be in the opposition, its members should make statements against the Punjab government and also sit on opposition benches after leaving the “government’s lap”. The Punjab opposition leader said that the PML-Q was not in favour of imposing governor’s rule in the province. Zaheer said that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were democratic parties and doing their politics by keeping in view democratic norms.
Talking to journalists outside the Punjab Assembly, Unification Bloc leader Dr Tahir Ali Javed said that the political mayhem has not ended yet but it was the “beginning of the game”. He mocked former Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s claim that the PML-Q has 83 MPAs in the Punjab Assembly and claimed that his group has the support of 46 members and would expose Elahi whenever he was asked to prove his majority. Javed said that the Unification Bloc did not extend support to the PML-N to get benefits but it wanted to save democracy.
The former Punjab health minister claimed that he did not receive benefit of even a single penny from the PML-N. He said that the masses were eagerly waiting for outcome of the deadline given to the PPP-led federal government by Nawaz and very soon the remaining 43 days of the deadline would also pass. Javed said that the Unification Bloc’s importance was the same as it was two years ago and politicians should take decisions in the masses’ favour.
