A writ petition has been submitted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan to suspend a recent increase in gas prices by the federal government. Lawyer Asad Muhammad said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had increased the prices of oil and gas in January and February, robbing consumers of Rs 70 billion of oil and gas in the last three years because of wrong decisions made by the officials concerned. The petitioner has requested the federal government to sack Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain for mishandling the shortage of gas, causing a nationwide uproar. He also made a request to suspend the notification issued for the increase in gas prices.
