LONDON – Dathan Ritzenhein, a three-time US cross-country champion, has been added to the list of runners at this year’s London Marathon, organisers said Monday.
Ritzenhein will be up against Ethiopia’s defending champion Tsegaye Kebede and the Kenyan duo of Olympic champion Sammy Wanjiru and world champion Abel Kirui in a strong field for the men’s race on April 17. The 28-year-old Ritzenhein, set his personal best of two hours 10 minutes for the marathon in London in 2009 and he was eighth in the New York City Marathon in November.
“I am delighted to be returning to London,” said Ritzenhein.
“When I raced in London two years ago I produced my best time so I hope the strength of this field can inspire me to run another PB (personal best) this year.
“It will be a daunting task against such talented opponents but I am looking forward to the challenge
