Qaim seeks finalisation of 5km road schemes

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah has ordered the officers of the Planning & Development (P&D) Department, the Finance Department and other departments concerned to finalise the schemes of constructing 5-kilometre roads as per the MPA programme, particularly for the remaining 47 of the 169 MPAs.
Shah issued the directives on Friday at the CM House during a high-level meeting in connection with the 5km road schemes for members of the Sindh Assembly.
The CM said up to 122 MPAs have presented their proposed schemes, which have been processed and discussed, and awaiting execution.
He said the schemes of the remaining MPAs are be obtained immediately so as to process and initiate work as soon as possible, as well as of certain MPAs of the urban areas, namely Karachi and Hyderabad, who are interested in other projects.
It was decided in the meeting that the senior MPA of every district would head the District Development Committee, whereas deputy commissioners would be secretaries at their respective district development committees.
The participants of the meeting were earlier informed that dropping schemes of less than 2km (of 107 MPAs) was being considered.
The CM said the provincial government would complete the ongoing schemes, as a huge amount has already been spent on them.
Besides, he added, roads affected by heavy rains would also be completed by the provincial government.
Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah informed the participants of the meeting that out of Rs 111 billion ADP, more than Rs 25 billion have been spent on the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of flood affectees.
He said half the funds have already been released for the ongoing schemes, and keeping in view the progress, more funds would be released.
He stressed that monitoring committees of the P&D Department should regularly keep an eye on those schemes.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, P&D Additional Chief Secretary Israr Malik, Works & Services Secretary M Arif Khan, CM’s special secretaries Hafeezullah Abbasi and Dr Atta Muhammad Panhwar, and officers of the P&D and finance departments.
