The Islamabad chapter of the Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Women’s Wing staged a protest on Thursday to express their solidarity with the families of the deceased cardiac patients who were administered fatal drugs at the Pakistan Institute of Cardiology.
The protestors, propelled by their profound sympathies with the family members, condemned the mishandling of the situation by the Punjab government and demanded that the authorities responsible for the criminal negligence be held accountable and brought to injustice. PTI Women’ Wing President and principal activist Fauzia Kasuri said the time had come for Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif to stop running a one man show in Punjab’s governance and decentralise the power. She demanded that the CM install competent and professional people to run the health affairs ministry.
She stated that the Punjab health sector had malfunctioned under the CM’s supervision. She said: “No sooner had the people come out of the panic caused by the Dengue virus than another catastrophic event was perpetrated by the corporate interests of the pharmacy companies. These tragic developments are sufficient to prove the CM’s incompetence.” She added that the ‘drama’ of conducting laboratory test in the country and abroad should be ended and the transparent enquiries be conducted to prevent further causalities. The demonstrators expressed their condolences and offered Fateha for the deceased.
