An officer of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA)’s security team was shot dead by bandits during a robbery bid inside a house located in DHA Phase VIII on Thursday.
According to reports, three bandits entered a bungalow on Khayaban-e-Bahria in the morning and held its residents hostage on gunpoint. On receiving information, the nearest security team was dispatched and DHA Vigilance Field Inspector Zafar Iqbal entered the house.
As the security personnel overpowered one of the robbers, another bandit opened fire at the inspector.
Iqbal – a retired subedar of Pakistan Army – suffered nine bullets, with one to his head proving fatal. The deceased is survived by his widow and two children.
The police reached the scene of the incident after the fatal encounter and apprehended two robbers.
DHA Administrator Brig Aamer Raza Qureshi said that Iqbal showed exemplary courage and devotion solely to protect the residents.
He said the DHA would do everything possible within its resources for the welfare and wellbeing of the family of the deceased inspector.
The body of the deceased was later dispatched to his native town Talagang for burial.
