Another Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) activist was killed on Wednesday, a day after the religious organisation’s legal adviser and another activist were murdered.
Pakistan Bazaar police said as soon as ASWJ’s 30-year-old Mehtab Alam stepped out of his house at Rehmat Chowk in Sector 11½ of Orangi Town, two motorcyclists opened fire on him. Alam was killed on the spot and his body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Separately, the ASWJ staged a three-hour protest outside the Risala police station on Wednesday, chanting slogans against the law enforcement agencies and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits behind the killings of their fellow activists.
The organisation’s legal adviser Muhammad Ali and activist Muhammad Nauman were killed by six motorcyclists outside the city courts on Tuesday.
A large number of ASWJ activists surrounded the Risala police station and blocked the main MA Jinnah Road to pressure the law enforcers into registering a case against the killers.
They finally ended their sit-in after police registered a case against Tanveer Abbas, Muhammad Mehdi, Syed Waseem Ahmed and three unidentified suspects.
South Senior Superintendent of Police Naeem Ahmed Sheikh said ASWJ activists had demanded registering a case against some people belonging to Fiqah-e-Jafaria. They dispersed after the case was registered.
Similarly, ASWJ activists also staged a sit-in at the ICI Bridge, blocking all vehicular traffic until the case was registered.
Moreover, shops and markets in the Old City area were forcibly closed by unidentified armed miscreants to mourn the murder of the ASWJ men.
The Old City area and Lyari remained tense during the organisation’s different demonstrations.
Funny how things hurt more when they happen to you! You sit there so innocently while you commit heinous acts of murder against those of the Fiqah-e-Jaffria School of Thought. The ASWJ is a banned terrorist organization acting under the banner of religion. These fools stage a sit-in only to shoot other Shias in a day or two.
