Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Ahmad Shuja Pasha discussed issues of NATO supply, Afghanistan situation and Pakistan-US relations with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday.
The Army chief and ISI DG met him at the Prime Minister’s House while Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar was also present during the meeting.
In their meeting, Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Shuja Pasha, Yousaf Raza Gilani and the foreign minister discussed the recommendation of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) over reviewing ties with the United States.
The situation in the region, with particular reference to Afghanistan, also came under discussion.
The Pak-US relations have been in strain since the attack by NATO helicopters on Salala check posts in Mohmand Agency that martyred 24 Pakistani soldiers.
Analysts attach great importance to the meeting of COAS and DG ISI with the prime minister in the context of memogate scandal, as the prime minister had accused the duo of acting unconstitutionally by submitting their replies directly in Supreme Court in the memogate case.
The army had sharply reacted to the charges that led to sacking of defence secretary by the prime minister. They opined that this meeting indicated the strained relations between military establishment and civilian leadership were easing.
