Actor Sunny Deol, who had roped in Ashwini Chaudhury to direct Ghayal Returns, a sequel of to his 1990 hit Ghayal, has now fired the director from the project. Apparently, there were disagreements between the two on how the story should be taken forward. Sunny has now handed over the project to director Rahul Rawail, who he worked with 12 years ago in Arjun Pandit.
Incidentally, Ashwini has already shot the first teaser of Ghayal Returns. Confirming the news Ashwini, who has just completed shooting of Bipasha Basu-R Madhavan starrer Jodi Breakers, says, “There were issues.
I was looking at the film differently and Sunny was looking at it in another manner.” Also, the director reveals that Sunny wanted him to start the shooting in January when he was still in the process of completing Jodi Breakers. “We were not on in the same page. Sunny was in a hurry to start the film. It was not possible to start with the film before I finished Jodi Breakers. So we parted ways amicably,” says Ashwini.
An insider from Deol’s production house, Vijeta Films, reveals that director Rahul Rawail, who is presently making the sequel, was actually roped in for sequel of Deol’s last hit Yamla Pagla Deewana (YPD, 2011), originally directed by Samir Karnik. Apparently, Sunny has scrapped Ashwini’s script and is set to start fresh with Rahul. Ask Rahul why he is shifted from YPD to Ghayal Returns, and he says, “I have no idea.
