President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had an informal exchange of views on Friday over the process of review of terms of engagements between Pakistan and NATO forces by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS).
A source told Pakistan Today that both leaders met here at the Presidency after a ceremony held to decorate Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila with the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (M). “Both leaders had an informal discussion on the professional matters of the armed forces, post-NATO attack strategy and the scope of recommendations finalised by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. Security issues were also discussed during the meeting between both leaders,” the source said, adding that both leaders exchanged views while the services chiefs were also present. “The president told the army chief that the recommendations by the PCNS had been finalised and they would now be presented in the joint session of parliament, which is likely to be summoned within the next 10 days,” said the source and added that the body language of both leaders suggested that tension between the presidential camp and the general headquarters was lowering.

  1. we have all the respects for army and ISI when they are operating with in their limits. we need professional army with all the respects, but Pervaiz Musharraf ruined this all. never ever any soldier was hurt, and we use to salam whenever we see any soldier passing by. it was his single minded decision which degrade our respected army. we must see into the circumstances and reasons why it happened and who was behind and around this tragedy with cool minds and debating within walls. the enemies are within ourselves and must be pointed out. out of many things merit and honesty has been two of many reasons and we must think on with patience and with cool minds.

    • Gen Musharraf's actions led to problems with the professional image of Pakistan Army. He should be condemned for it.

Gen Kayani has made sincere efforts to rebuild that image. He has been very successful. Let's congratulate him.

Pakistanis must learn not to associate individual actions as the policy of that organisation.

  2. Mr. Zafar, I don't know any other nation which criticize it's own intelligence agency and army. Our army is Pakista peopl army. Whenever they came to power Pakistan brought to road to development. It s dictator ia always more democratic than democratically elected dictator.
