Yousuf chooses fasting over cricket

Mohammad Yousuf will not sign with Leicestershire after failing to agree to personal terms, cricket website ESPNcricinfo reported.
Yousuf wanted Leicestershire to allow him time off for the month of Ramazan, for him to fast, but the county were concerned about losing Yousuf for four of the 16 County Championship matches.
“We have been in talks for several weeks,” Leicestershire chief executive, Mike Siddall, told the Leicester Mercury. “Unfortunately, a problem arose this week which, between us, we could not solve. We are disappointed and are now looking at other options.”
Warwickshire also ran into problems when they signed Yousuf last season. They failed in their attempts to persuade him to stay for the second half of the season with Yousuf not wanting to play one-day cricket and also wanting to miss cricket for Ramazan.
The news is another blow to Leicestershire who lost both England Lions’ captain James Taylor and left-arm bowler Harry Gurney to Nottinghamshire. They also signed Martin van Jaarsveld from Kent, before he decided to retire from county cricket, and Andrew McDonald is unable to rejoin the county because of visa problems.

  1. He did, and freedom of religious association and practice is enshrined in the UNHRC, he has the right to fast in the month of Ramadan, or any other day of the year. However, I believe he should have informed the club at the time of signing the contract.

  2. He became rich because of Cricket, he became world renown because of cricket, He even became a Muslim because of Cricket no matter what anyone says.. Now, he ignores the very thing that made him into what he is now.. But i’m sure not many would understand this..

  3. Maybe he can fast and play cricket in england the weather is no that bad as i try to do the same in season but surely RAMADAN is great month and should be spent in praying and asking for forgiveness may ALLAH be please with us all (AMEEN)

  4. No doubt Fasting in ramzan is much more important than cricket……!
During month of ramazan matches should be schedule in the way that fast's of Muslim players may not be disturbed……………………………………………………………!

  5. @hussain bhai sahab yeh kia kaha aap ne? “He became rich because of Cricket, he became world renown because of cricket, He even became a Muslim because of Cricket” Cricket ne issay ameer banaya ya Allah Rubul Alameen ne? Cricket ne issay hidayat di ya Allah Rubul Alameen ne? mere aziz Allah hi jisay chahay izzat deta hai jisay chahay zilat deta hai, aur hidayat sirf Allah Rubul Alameen k hath main hai.

  6. He became rich because of Cricket, he became world renown because of cricket, He even became a Muslim because of Cricket no matter what anyone says.. Now, he ignores the very thing that made him into what he is now.. But i'm sure not many would understand this..

  7. excuse me, but there is a thing called PROFESSIONALISM…which we, as a nation, seem to lack. work is work. if he had to fast, he could have fasted if he wanted to while playing. God doesn't tell us to neglect work if we are fasting, essentially. alternatively, he could have informed them before…this is very unprofessional of him. nevertheless…perhaps Allah will bless him for this, hopefully he is being a true muslim in every aspect of life and not just keeping up with the minimum basics. i hope his intentions are honest.

  8. I totally agree with Anwar. Professoonalism is the key. Keep that in mind that God does not to want make things diffcult for us. Islam is an easy Deen. There is lot of felxiability in that. The trend set by Mullahs to do nothing during the month of Ramzan except eating Hawalas and saying prayers and terrrifying people with GOD's punishments is coming into comman men too .

He can fast last 15 days of ramazan and for first 15 days help poor people in their fasting and once he is free from his cricket he can fast for 15 days and pray for God's blessing. I am hopeful his team mates will be happy with that too as he wil not miss matches Remember God wants to make things easy and nothing more inportant than earning halal raziq during month of Ramazan which its self is a Ibaadah

  9. well you have obligations to Allah obviously and then you have obligations to the team you signed a binding contract with. if the team understood his decision then it is all good. but I play cricket for a club where i live and I have played and fasted at the same time…

  10. ALLAH will gave him reward for this because ALLAH says Fasting is for HIM and I will reward you.

  11. yeah i agree with the yousaf he has took a very good decision….see guys what is cricket……just a game…right i think prayer and fasting it much better than cricket…yaar don't see toward Indians and other non Muslims….we have different and very good religion there is not written anywhere to skip the fast due to games…Allah will not forgive any of Muslim who don't fast….Allah bless him…………and u all Muslims should encourage him….not to disappoint him…any ways if he is good Muslim he wont care what other thinks…………vision should be broad towards religion…and should keep the value and importance of our paak religion……… so don't think about this world this is temporary,,,,,,,,we all should prepare our self for the jannah
