Some 150,000 undeserving individuals have been confirmed in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) who had been receiving a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 for months and years, according to a report by Geo TV on Wednesday.
The report said that several international donors had indicated at the inclusion of numerous undeserving individuals in the BISP, raising questions about the programme’s integrity. The parliament also endorsed the reports and confirmed that the money was being distributed to people who were not needy.
The BISP director general said they had stopped the monthly stipend to some 120,000 to 150,000 individuals and expelled them from the programme’s roll.
