LAHORE – Hissam Ali Hyder led Master Paints Whites to the final of the Toyota Cup Polo Tournament 2011 after a closely-contested match against The Bank of Punjab here on Saturday at the LPC ground.
Master Paints Whites scored six goals against BoP’s five and a half. Hissam produced four goals while one each came from Sufi Muhammad Haris and Lt. Col. Raja Nadeem. Rivals BoP remained at their heels throughout the four chukkers, with Shah Qubilai Alam, Hamza Mawaz Khan and Waseem Sial sharing the five field goals. Their half a goal handicap could have been a shock for the winning team had Qublai found form during the match. Master Paints will now face Guard Group/Diamond Paints in the final on Sunday. Remounts won the match against PICIC Insurance to qualify for the subsidiary final against Pakistan Air Force. Remounts had to fight all ends against PICIC Insurance to earn a five and a half goals to three win. Remounts scored four field goals and had entered the field with one and a half goal advantage. Lt. Asif Manzoor and Maj Nauman Wasif shared one goal each while Lt. Col. Asif Zahoor produced two including a winner that came in the fourth chukker. For PICIC, Ahmed Khan was the sole scorer.
Apart from the Toyota Cup matches, the day was full of activity at the LPC, where about nearly a dozen two-chukker and full round matches were played. Five games were decided in the Ciro’s Pizza Pomodoro Polo Cup 2010 while six matches were played in the PSS Asia Polo Cup 2010. In the two-chukker PSS Asia Cup 2010, PSS International beat Sindh Police 5-1, Silk Bank overwhelmed Garrison Polo Club 8-5
