The residents of Tapa Momand and Tapa Koee Damaan in Peshawar’s PK-10-11 have decided to go on a strike against excessive electricity and gas load shedding in the area. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Arshad Advocate said it had been four months since the people of the area were receiving an hour of electricity supply everyday. He said agricultural lands in the area were going to waste and businesses were being adversely affected owing to the constant suspension of electricity.
He said students were worried about their future, as they could not study because of the load shedding. He said the people of the area had met officials of the PESCO, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Speaker Khushdil Khan and the district coordination officer for redressal of their issues but none of them heeded their issues. Arshad said PESCO told the residents of the constituency that power transformers were needed in the grid stations of Matani, Badh Ber and Sheikh Muhammadi and it was possible if the elected representatives concerned paid for them from their allocated developmental fund.
He said the elected representatives were least bothered in solving the problems of their respected constituencies. To a query about electricity theft in the areas, he said people paid their bills and it was the employees of PESCO who were corrupt. Regarding their announced protest, he said thousands of residents from all villages would gather in Badh Ber and block the main Kohat Road for all kinds of traffic and demonstrators walk towards the provincial assembly and the Governor’s House. He said the government would be responsible for any mishap during the strike.
