The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director General (DG) Atif Kayani and former Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) secretary Junaid Iqbal on a contempt of court petition filed against them for not complying with court orders. A single-member bench consisting of Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan was hearing the case in which education department stenographers’ counsel Shoaib Ahmed Nasir informed the court that on May 23, 2011 he told the same court that the quota of stenographers was required to be increased and brought at par with other organisations. He requested the court to direct the department concerned to give necessary orders in this regard. On hearing this, the IHC directed the federal education secretary and others to decide the petitioners’ issues within two months. The petitioners’ counsel said that as IHC orders were communicated to the education ministry after its devolution, FDE’s administrative control was transferred to CADD and now it was responsibility of the then CADD secretary to ensure implementation of court orders. He said that the FDE DG was also responsible to get the issue decided by the authority concerned within the stipulated period. Nasir said that no positive steps were taken by both respondents on the legal notice and verbal requests of petitioners.
