Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Khwaja Asif on Sunday said an elected prime minister of the country should not apologise to anyone, rather politicians and generals should seek people’s forgiveness for their deeds done in the past 40 years, a private TV channel reported. He said the prime minister had the right to fire the defence secretary and that the army functioned under the prime minister. Talking to the channel over telephone, Asif said the position of the prime minister had a sanctity, but Gilani did not care much about preserving it. “The sanctity of the (PM’s) position must remain intact.” He said his party was not in favour of army interference in politics. Asif said Shahbaz Sharif had demanded that the prime minister apologise to the people. “The defence secretary turns a blind eye to the rules and regulations when a prime minister gets handcuffed,” he added.
