Lawyers across the country observed a complete strike on Tuesday to protest against the killing of their colleague, former Punjab Bar Council (PBC) member Nasrullah Warraich. The PBC had announced to hold protests and observe black day after Warraich was shot dead by unidentified people outside his residence in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Ravi area.
The lawyers in Lahore did not appear in the Lahore High Court and lower courts, and observed the day with black flags hoisted at bar rooms and black ribbons tied around their arms. Lawyer’s unions demanded the government to immediately arrest those responsible for Warraich’s murder and bring them to justice.
They also criticised the Punjab police for showing “complete negligence and inefficiency”. The lawyers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi also observed a complete strike and boycotted court proceedings to express solidarity with their colleagues in Lahore. Similarly, lawyers of the Karachi Bar Association also observed a strike on the call of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
