The Punjab Assembly on Monday discussed the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Report 2007-10, as Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said the government would further strengthen the commission.
The minister said the PPSC was one of the departments respected by the public, as it followed strict merit policy. He said everyone knew about the importance of the commission. He urged the members of provincial assembly to give proposals to make more efficient and strong.
MPA Rana Abdul Rehman said the current building of PPSC was declared dangerous some six years ago, after which an alternate piece of land was provided to the department, which had not been not moved so far.
He said the basic responsibility of PPSC was to hire people between BPS 17 and 20, but it was now also involved in recruitment for Grade 9 and 16.
“It has overburdened the PPSC and we recommend that its resources should be enhanced so that it could perform efficiently,” Abdul Rehman added.
PML-Q leader Mohsin Leghari, while criticising the Punjab government, said retired officials were being accommodated in the PPSC, while its head was a former general and four members retired police officers.
He suggested that officers from provincial service should be taken in this department.
On a point of order, MPA Nazim Hussain Shah showed his concerns over delay in construction of new building of Punjab Assembly.
Punjab Minister for Forests Ahmed Ali Aulakh said trees could not be planted in province due to shortage of funds. Answering a question, he said Arab Sheikhs were allowed by the Foreign Ministry for hunting.
