Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan condemned Gen. (r) Pervez Musharraf’s statement that recognising Israel and establishing diplomatic ties with it was in the interest of Pakistan. Responding to Musharraf’s interview to an Israeli paper Munawar Hasan said that Israel was an illegitimate state that had been created in the midst of the Arab world with US blessing by unlawfully occupying Palestine. He questioned who has given Musharraf the right to propose Islamabad recognise Israel.
Munawar questioned Musharraf’s logic that like Pakistan, Israel was also an ideological state and it was now a fact and must be accepted. He condemned Musharraf for terming himself a fan of former Israeli prime minister Arial Sharon Separately, JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said people were heading towards revolt, anarchy and civil disobedience due to the electricity and gas crisis and increasing fuel prices. He was talking to a delegation of traders at Mansoora.
He said the average debt on an average Pakistani had increased from Rs 20,000 in the year 2008 to Rs.55,000 today. He said the JI will cut down prices by 30 per cent, guarantee jobs to all and eliminate corruption within six months if it comes into power.
