No progress sans women: Abbasi

Member National Assembly Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has said that women by acquiring education can play vital role in development of the country.
He said the Punjab government was giving equal attention towards provision of facilities at the girls colleges.
He said the development of the country was related to promoting education and Punjab government was giving priority to education sector as it had allocated record funds for construction of additional blocks and provision of missing facilities in schools and colleges.
He expressed these views while addressing as chief guest on the occasion of inaugural ceremony of newly constructed Hall and Additional Block in Government Girls Degree College for women, Dhoke Kala Khan, Rawalpindi.
MPA Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate, Director Colleges Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Principal Dr Fareeha Nighat, Heads of educational institutions, educationists, notables, teachers and a large number of students were present on this occasion. Abbasi said nations progressed on the basis of knowledge and research.
He said a major segment of the population consisted of youth and if they were equipped with education and skill, the goals of development and prosperity could be achieved within a short span of time. He said the Punjab chief minister had established computer labs in 4500 schools of the province to promote computer education.
Students wining positions in Board Examinations and Debates competitions have been awarded prizes with a view to encourage them, he added.
The Punjab government has decided to provide 100,000 laptops to talented students and a large number of students have been provided scholarships for higher education from Punjab Endowment Fund which had been established with a huge amount of Rs. 8 billion.
Abbasi formally inaugurated the newly constructed hall and additional block of the college which have been attributed to the names of Mother-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and renowned personality of Rawalpindi Mian Pervaiz Aslam respectively. Raja Muhammad Hanif also spoke on the occasion and said that flyover on Chandni Chowk will be soon completed which would resolve traffic problem in the city.
