Pakistan Hockey Federation President Qasim Zia on Friday confirmed his that he was one of the candidates to contest for the position of the president Pakistan Olympics Association.
His immediate rivals for the post would be current POA President Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan while Athletics Federation of Pakistan President Gen (retd) Muhammad Akram Sahi has also shown his desire to contest the elections. “I am going to contest for the position. I can’t say anything about others because the elections were just announced,” he added.
“I have taken my friends into confidence and would come up with a team for other positions after discussions,” said Qasim. Qasim remained mum on support from the Prime Minister, however, pointed out that his step is for the betterment of the sports in the country.
“Anyone who wants to improve the country’s sports should come forward. I have served Pakistan hockey for whole of my life, first as a player and now as the president of the PHF for three years. I think I should continue my effort to lift the entire sports of the country,” he maintained. On the PHF case against former Olympians, Qasim said that he wants the culprits behind the bars. And if he has done anything wrong, he is ready for the consequences.
