Two persons including an alleged member of a banned outfit were gunned down and two others were severely injured when their rival party opened fire on them in Gujjar Pura police limits on Thursday. The deceased were identified as a 35-year-old Hafiz Tariq Muavia, an alleged member of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and his 25-year-old gunman Shoaib Akram. According to details, Hafiz Tariq had killed his rival Arif Butt of Baseen village in Batapur police area a year ago. SHO Gujjarpura said Tariq was a nominated culprit in that case and had got released on bail recently. Police said on the day of incident Tariq along with his two gunmen namely Shoaib Akram, Saleem, his nephew Irfan and driver Ashfaq were going to the Session Court for the hearing of the case but when their car reached near Carol Ghati on Ring Road, five armed men stopped them and opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle. As a result. Tariq was reported to have died on spot while his gunman Shoaib succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. SP Omer Saeed Malik told reporters that Tariq received some 12 bullets which claimed his life on the spot. Police investigators said Muavia was killed over the same old enmity but the investigation was still open-ended. Saleem was stated to be in critical condition in the hospital.
Meanwhile Gujjarpura police has registered case against 9 accused, of which five were present on crime scene while the rest took part in the planning.
SP Investigation Capt(R) Liaquat Ali malik told Pakistan Today that both the parties had old rivalry over some dispute and both had been found involved in armed clashes before this incident as well and the investigation, being carried out by a special team, would reveal the rest.
