Three leading US senators on Thursday voiced concern over Pakistan’s treatment of its former envoy to Washington accused of crafting a controversial memo which has triggered a scandal.
Husain Haqqani resigned over the affair and a Pakistani commission is probing the unsigned memo said to have sought Washington’s help to head off a feared military coup in May in exchange for overhauling the country’s powerful security leadership. The statement from Republican senators John McCain and Mark Kirk as well as independent Senator Joe Lieberman voiced concern that Haqqani may be “becoming a political tool for revenge”, and urged Pakistan to resolve the issue swiftly.
“We are increasingly troubled by ambassador Haqqani’s treatment since he returned home to Pakistan, including the travel ban imposed on him,” the statement said, adding he had served “honourably” as ambassador to the US. “Like many in Washington, we are closely following ambassador Haqqani’s case. We urge Pakistani authorities to resolve this matter swiftly and consistent with civilian rule of law,” the senators urged. Islamabad should “prevent the judicial commission investigating ambassador Haqqani from becoming a political tool for revenge against an honourable man,” they added.

  1. Dear US
Haqqani is Pakistan citizen , formerly holding a key position as a Pakistani Ambassador to your land
so cant u Go**amn see , Pakistani is investigating him for the post rendered upon him by Pakistan government
leaving aside the fact him being an American citizens too !

  2. they will care for their agents as we easily become traitors for personal gains… Let the court probe nicely & punish him if guilty as he also issues visas to their agents… Diplomata are reps of countries but they betray for own benefits,,,and dont care to benefit their country,,are these not high treason acts… Let the fair game end with punishments to the culprits…. Then CJP will be the best candidate for president….but corrupt people dont like honest upon their heads as they cant do corruption,,,lets hope for a good change,,,

  3. This just proves it that Haqqani is their man.
Pakistan should tell the US Senators to keep their nose out of Pakistan's affairs. How would they like it if Pakistan tells them to release th eAmerican soldier accused of leaking documents to Wikileaks?

  4. Ordinary person on the street does not know even the meaning of Memo. No one is even bothered about its contents other than dictators and their persons in the media houses. Yes, people are concerned but about Gas, electricity, clean drinking water, health, corruption every where around them so on and so forth. They are even least bothered about NRO.

  5. Ghairat brigade here again goes into action.
There is only one rule here which is military rule.
Can some one from the ghairat brigade tell me that under which law some one took passport from haqqani on his arrival here.
