Legal experts said on Wednesday that the country’s judiciary is moving towards change but the dream of a complete independent judiciary is yet to be materialised. They were speaking at a seminar organised by the Jeevay Pakistan Jeevay Maqami-Hakumat (JPJM) at a local hotel. JPJM Chairman Daniyal Aziz, Justice (r) Fakharuddin G Ibrahim, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Yasin Azad, Justice (r) Tariq Mehmood, Athar Minullah and Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi participated in the event. Daniyal said that the federal government and bureaucracy, which called themselves champions of an independent judiciary, were trying to curb the judiciary’s independence by implementing the executive magistracy system and enforcing the Local Government System 1979. He said that the historic judgment of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on JPJM petition’s had restored the constitution’s supremacy and foiled all efforts to curb the judiciary’s independence.
