Over 7,041 outlaws arrested in 2011

Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested as many as 7,041 outlaws in 18,445 cases registered during 2011 at 26 police stations of District Rawalpindi. A police spokesman told APP that 97 gangs were busted during the said period arresting 402 outlaws against whom 426 FIRs were lodged in various police stations. Giving break up, he said a total of 2,161 cases of illegal arms were registered during the year while 2,169 persons were sent behind the bars. 3,585 drug peddlers were held by the district police in 3,489 cases seizing 61,258 liquor bottles, 2,480 kilogrammes of charras, 26 kilogrammes of heroin and other drugs.
Police also recovered 266 pistols, eight rifles, 20 cars, 31 motorcycles, 10 other vehicles and more than Rs 14.2 million from criminals and challan against them were presented in courts. During 2011, total 77 robbery cases were registered while 65 criminals were held and police recovered costly items worth over Rs 35 million. Moreover, 562 cases of various street crimes were registered and 401 persons were arrested. There were 976 cases of car theft in which 214 car lifters were held and police recovered vehicles worth over Rs 670 million, 781 FIRs about motorcycle theft were registered, 146 motorcycle lifters were arrested and motorcycles worth over Rs five million were recovered. In addition, 250 FIRs of various vehicles theft cases were registered and police held 50 persons recovering Rs 13.5 million vehicles.
Police spokesman claimed that due to the efforts made by the district police, now considerable reduction is being noticed especially in vehicles lifting cases.
He informed that police patrolling to control crime rate was made more effective in 2011 and among the gangs busted during 2011, three members of Malang Khan gang were arrested and police recovered Rs 3.5 million with three motorcycles from them. Other gangs whose members have been arrested include Hafeez alias Hafeeza gang, Waseem gang, Bishu gang, Parado gang, Asad Ullah alias Charai gang, Eidu gang, Waseem Kiani gang, Azam Khan gang and Zariab gang and valuables and vehicles and motorcycles worth millions of rupees were recovered. Police also busted a big gang and its six members were held while 2124 gram gold worth Rs nine million was recovered.
