Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar hoped on Tuesday that positive development in Pakistan-India relations would also continue during the current year.
She said this when the High Commissioner of India, Sharat Sabharwal, paid a courtesy call on the foreign minister here. She said that 2011 had been a positive year for Pakistan–India bilateral relations.
She recalled her meeting with India’s Minister for External Affairs, S M Krishna in the Maldives on the sidelines of the SAARC Summit in November 2011, where both sides had reviewed the progress made in the resumed dialogue process.
High Commissioner Sabharwal expressed appreciation for the foreign minister’s efforts and commitment to the dialogue process.
The two nuclear neighbours of South Asia have been trying hard to improve their relations for the last ten years.
Since 2001, talks at various levels took place between Pakistan and India. But the Mumbai attack of 2008 stalled the process, however, leadership of the two countries decided last year to resume the process.
A few months ago, Pakistan decided to give MFN status to India and the later also made several positive gestures for improving the relations. The two sides even agreed to probe the Mumbai incident jointly and commissions in this connection would be exchanged this month.
Also in this month the two sides would also discuss signing agreement pertaining to liberalise visa regime including multiple visas options.
