Gilani, Kayani discuss national security

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani talks to army chief General Ashfaq Kayani during a meeting on Friday.

Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Gilani and discussed matters related to national security, war on terror, Pakistan’s relations with the U.S. and the post NATO strike situation, sources said.
During the meeting, PM welcomed the statement given by army chief in support of democracy saying that the government would play its respective role to strengthen democracy. He went on to say that sacrifices rendered by army in war against terrorism were more than others and the government would meet the defense requirements of armed forces despite its limited sources.
The international community should stop ignoring the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terrorism, he said, adding that the role of armed forces remained vital in elimination of terrorism.
According to sources, post-NATO strikes situation was discussed at length in the meeting. Both, the PM and Army chief, expressed their resolve that national security and sovereignty of the country would be given top priority and no pressure would be accepted on this count.
The Army chief briefed the PM on professional matters of the armed forces.
This crucial meeting which took place in National Defence University Islamabad lasted one hour. Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman Gen Khalid Shameem Wynne and Air chief Rao Qamar Suleman were also present on the occasion.

  1. Our Army is all powerful. They are the ones who control civilian governments. Civilians are there only to face public wrath due to wrong policies dictated by Army top brass. We celebrate our freedom every year on 14th August. One wonders when will we be actually a free nation. Does not look like in the foreseeable future.
