An inspector of City Traffic Police in connivance with his subordinates brutally thrashed a youth over a minor issue at a sector office near Kalma Chowk earlier on Monday.
The victim Shumayle Abraham, resident of Model Town, while talking to Pakistan Today said a traffic warden issued fine tickets to him on Dec 25, adding that he paid the fine at the branch of bank concerned on the very next day and was visiting the sector office in order to get his documents back since then. He said whenever he visited the office, he found a long queue and he never got his documents back despite waiting for his turn. Shumayle said the officials of City Traffic Police were used to mock him, saying he should check his documents at the Model Town Courts, where he was told that his papers had not reached there yet.
He said on Monday, he visited the sector office again and he asked Inspector Niaz, who was performing duties there, for his documents on his turn. He said inspector replied rudely, on which he felt insulted, but yet questioned the inspector in a polite manner to tell him from where he could get his documents.
The inspector got infuriated and started misbehaving with him and over his little retaliation the inspector went more furious and attacked him with kicks and fits. He said some policemen hardly managed to save him from the inspector, but other traffic police officials also pushed him out of the office blaming him for being a real reason behind all the mishap.
He said he with the help of one of his relatives contacted Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt Mubeen, who listened to his complaint and asked him to file a written application, assuring him of stern action against the said officer of traffic police, if found guilty in course of interrogations.
CTO Mubeen, while talking to Pakistan Today on the issue, repeated same words, saying he would order detailed investigation into the matter. He, however, said the complainant told him that the inspector had attempted to thrash him and did not torture him.
