The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued notices for December 28 to the federal government and WAPDA on plea against electricity load-shedding after non-payment of outstanding dues to the IPPs, resulting in reduced generation by them. The court also sought reply from the respondents, directing them to give reasons behind the current loadshedding. Expressing concern on the situation, Chief justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed observed it was strange that the LHC had also been experiencing power outages, which was hampering working of the court.
The petition was filed by Muhammad Azhar Siddique, submitting that government was not paying oil companies and IPPs, therefore, they were not producing electricity and load shedding had been started. Report sought on substandard CNG cylinder: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought report and para-wise comments from the federal and provincial governments by January 24 on a petition seeking crackdown against substandard CNG cylinder manufacturers for public transport buses and vans, killing passengers in the rising incidents of cylinder explosions.
Court moved for cancellation of APML’s registration: A petition has been moved in the Lahore high court for cancelling registration of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) of General (r) Pervez Musharraf as he has been declared a ‘traitor’ and subverter of the constitution through a judgment of the Supreme Court. The petitioner, Ghazi Illumuddin Advocate, contended that Musharraf and his party should be banned from taking part in the politics and its registration as a political party should be cancelled forthwith.
He also prayed to the court to declare all the notorious military dictators of the past as ‘traitors of the nation’ for subverting the Constitution of Pakistan and overthrowing governments. He pleaded that after SC declared Pervez Musharraf traitor and subverter of constitution, he was not eligible to head APML or taking part in next elections. He said if APML was not yet registered in Pakistan as a political party the same should be restrained to getting registered in the light of the SC verdict.
