Government on Monday said ISI chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha had stepped beyond his jurisdiction when he briefed army chief Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani about his meeting with Mansoor Ijaz in London.
“He should have known who he was supposed to report to,” the federal government stated this in a reply submitted to the Supreme Court in the form of an affidavit, according to newspaper reports.
The responses were in connection with a bunch of petitions that the apex court was hearing that sought a probe into the memogate scandal. The nine-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, had asked the federal government on December 19 to “accept or deny” the statements filed by Kayani, Pasha and others in the memo case.
The reply said that Kayani did not immediately inform the Prime minister of his meeting with the ISI chief on October 24 with regard to the details on the memo.
However, he chose to divulge the details to the Prime Minister on November 13.
According to reports, the government was of the view that according to the rules and regulations the ISI chief should have informed the Prime Minister of the issue before anyone else.
The reply also calls Ijaz’s allegations “a pack of lies”. Moreover, it goes on to say that a “piece of paper” does not pose a threat to the world’s “eighth largest army”.
Both Kayani and Pasha have taken an opposite position to that of the government before the apex court.
While both insist that the memo is authentic and needs to be thoroughly investigated, the government has termed it a “non issue” urging the SC to dismiss petitions outright.

  1. No more naive living in Pakistan, Sir. Even an illiterate village has now political awareness and in many ways, better than the urban society.

Everyone knows who is true and who is false.

Taking the shield of Rules and Regulations won't change the real facts.

  2. ISI chief definitely acted in a manner which is beyond his jurisdiction.
The present government is a weak government and governance is not to the mark.
The government should set an example to uphold the constitution and restore discipline in the armed forces.

  3. loved it
the biggest looters of Pakistan resides in GHQ !
who buys land at price of 30 – 60 per acres from govt and Military departments
and create a new housing societies of their own

  4. ISI Chief can be disciplined and should very well be but if the forensic evidence concludes that the highest men in the office i.e. the Prime Minster and he President are responsible what should be done about them. It is important to take it to its logical conclusion to prevent a repeat episode.

Surely civil control over the army cannot be denied but if some are in civil behaving irresponsibly to the detriment of Pakistan they should be brought to book. hours

  5. @Rana Junaid: The only reason Pakistan is still here is because of that GHQ. It's those crooks you idiots voted into power in 2007 who have plundered Pakistan into the situation we're in today. Do yourself a big favour and turn off GEO TV and get back to reality kid.
