Lahore – Students seeking professional education have started preferring Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) system and have started opting for Matriculation and Intermediate instead of General Certificate of Education (GCE), O and A-levels, has learnt.
Various families, especially of doctors and engineers, are forcing their children to follow the Pakistani educational system as they consider that the course taught in engineering and medical colleges are based on the BISE’s course. They said that GCE was meant for those who planed to study abroad.
Some teachers and parents claimed that this British educational system was running an ‘international agenda’; in order to ‘inject’ their own course, and thousands of students send billions of rupees abroad to appear in the exams, which was proving to be a financial burden on the financially weaker country as well.
Parents argued that entry tests course was also not based on the GCE system. Abrar Tauheed, who did O and A levels in engineering from Beaconhouse School System, told Pakistan Today that doing O and A-levels was his biggest mistake. He said his friends who went for Fsc were more easily getting admitted in engineering universities. He said he gave engineering tests continuously for two years but was not able to get admission even though he attained 3 A grades in A-levels. He said more than 90 percent questions in the entry tests were generated from Pakistani books.
Another student, Rabia Siddiqi, daughter of a lady doctor and who shifted from O-levels to Intermediate, said, “My mother wanted me to become a doctor as well, therefore she insisted me to do Faculty of Science (Fsc) rather than A-levels.” She further said that she was anti-Fsc at one time but now she thinks that she took the right decision. She said students who had an ambition to study abroad should go for O and A-levels while others should follow the Pakistani system.
Saad Saeed, an Fsc (pre medical) student at Forman Christian College and a son of a famous doctor, said he did O-levels from SICAS, but he and his parents realized that Fsc will prove to be much better for him for medicine. He said he should have had opted for matriculation than O-levels. He said the Cambridge system was also proving to be a huge financial burden on parents. He said that if he was doing A-levels from SICAS, it could have cost him around Rs 0.3 million whereas the expenses on Matriculation and Intermediate system were far lesser. He said his sister was already in the last year of O-levels and she also plans to shift to Fsc.
Another student, Saher, said that there should be a single education system in the country and GCE was creating a gap between upper and lower classes. She said she opted for matriculation even though her friends were insisting to go for GCE.
Harris Mirza, who did O and A-levels from a famous school, argued that this system helped him a lot to get an admission abroad. He confessed that even though he studied business subjects but the quality of education given in the GCE system was much better.
A mother of two and wife of a doctor, Mrs Saeed, said most of the doctors’ children were going for the Pakistani system, because they considered it more appropriate to get admission in medical colleges.
Farrukh Kamran, a student from University of Engineering and Technology, said he was lucky that he did not go for GCE and got admission in one of the most prestigious universities of Lahore. He said that he did not face problems in the entry tests, whereas his various friends who did A-levels had to go abroad to get admission.
A private school teacher, Rafaqat, said GCE had become a status symbol and not even India followed this system, to ensure a uniform educational system in the country.
My mother wanted me to become a doctor as well, therefore she insisted I do Faculty of Science (Fsc) rather than A-levels
There should be a single education system in the country and GCE is creating a gap between upper and lower classes. I opted for matriculation even though my friends were insisting for GCE

  1. I am doing my O level and I am glad to listen that it will help me in entry test because I want to go for medical and its entry test is based on FSc not Olevel.

      • that's coool go for metric…GCE is really creating gaps within us!!! there shuld be one! metric or o'level!!! however i prefer metric!

    • Raja,as you said that you are doing matric and you are glad to listen that entry test is based on FSc and not O level.you don't even know that there is no comparison between O level and FSc,the comparison is between O level and matric and between A level and FSc.i am surprised to read your comments that you compared O level with FSc.if you want to compare, you should compare O level with matric and A level with FSc.if you want to go for medical or engineering,it is better to do FSc than to do A level.but if we do O level,it has no negative effect for going in medical or engineering colleges

    • Now Medical tests are based on Alevels too . There are seperate tests for fsc student and alevel students .

    • i have passed matric but now i want to do o level … is it possible ???
      Reply me fast plzz

  2. Have students and their parents considered how many students complete sciences to opt for Medical and Engineering universities in Pakistan? Many many more than the seats available! In this competitive world, should we not have more options than just try to get into medical and engineering limited seats in Pakistan?? Is there a Plan B?

  3. I think O level is far better than matriculation because matric students just cram and they have no real concepts.that is one reason why many students who top in matric and fsc fail in entry test.actually,we don't have to cram for entry test.what we have to do is just use our concepts and entry test actually tests our IQ level.i am doing O level and i think i have taken the right decision.after that,i will go for fsc.i damp care what others say about O level.i choose the thing what my heart says.

    • i am in 8th class my papers are on my head after this i have to do one thing either o levels or matriculation i am confused in both things plz help me what is better for future

    • Asslam o alaikum, bhai u have written that after O LEVEL U will go for fsc, why , why not for a level can u explain plz for my knowledge,
      dr sethi

    • so you're driven by your heart………… though I'm also an O-levels student and this article is just persuading me to go abroad ……. well we'll see that.I also agree with you that matriculation is just about cramming the syllabus and pass the examination, and so that's why I prefer O-levels.

    • Well in my experience Matric/FSc students are better in sciences then O/A level students. Dont know the reason, it might be social upbringing or something else but its a fact.

  4. o-level is better in many ways than matriculation . It helps one to understand things easily in a better way .as i have witnessed myself, most students prefer matriculation because they think that o-level is quite expensive but there is nothing like that , you must first gather information regarding schools offering this facility . lastly i would like to say "DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE TO DO " IF YOU THINK YOU WILL BE MORE COMFORTABLE OR CAN EASILY DO MATRICULATION THAN GO FOR IT ………… BUT PLEASE DECIDE IT YOURSELF and it is not necessary to do a-levels too after doing o-levels and admissions in colleges have nothing to do with "O-LEVELS"

……………………… good luck , do not get confuse and choose wisely ……

    regards : Amna

    • miss amna my name is aqsa and i am studend of b.s.c mujhe ye janna hy k o level ya a level krnay ka kya tarika hy mai apnay chotay bhai ko krwana chathi hu o level ya a level kis class k bad kiya jata hy plzzzzzzzzzzzz help me coz mujhe es k baray mai ni pta plz ap kouch help kre

      • Olevels matriculation k equivalent hota hai aur 8 class k baad kia jata hai. Pakistan mae kch schools olevels matric ki tarhan 2 saal mae complete karvatae hain tou kch 3 saal mae. O levels k baad student agr pakistan mae reh kar agae parhnae ka irada rakhta hai tou fsc ya a levels , jo suitable lagae kar sakta hai lekin agar bahar jana chahae tou laazmi fsc k bajaye a levels karae. Olevels aur a levels dono privately b kiyae ja saktae hain.

        • hey miss amna i need ur help i am in classs 8 and want to be a docter so in 9th class wht should i take cambridge system or matric buzz my miss says if u do cambridge system ur 20% marks will be cut ? it true? and another teachers say u can do cambridge system in 9th and 10th and then in collage a levels plzzz tell me about all this things plzz tell me in detail about medical system and o level and a levels plzz thankxx

          • The details about the Cambridge system have already been mentioned in the reply above. Secondly marks is liye katae jaatay hain taa ke Pakistani board k equivalent ho Jaye but exactly 20% marks kaatay Jaye aisa zaroori nai hai. Secondly ab Cambridge system k bachon ki seats barha di gai hain in different renowned universities in Pakistan and the situation is getting better. But as u have stated above that u r interested in medical tou who tou Kaafi aagae ki Baat hai. Abhi tou u have to decide k o levels karna hai k matric and o levels is equivalent to 9th 10th yani matric bus o levels 2k bajaye 3 saal ka hota hai. So it's upto u and your parents what u want to go for. Do talk to other people about it and read the comments and replies of other people as well being posted on this website. If u still have any query so please post it here as a reply and I will try to answer it only if I know it :p good luck .

  5. i'm in o'level, trust me its far better than the matric. The standard's different. And if u compare the books of o'level and matric, o'level is much more better.

    • sir my name aqsa and i am studend of b.s.c mujhe ye janna hy k o level ya a level krnay ka kya tarika hy mai apnay chotay bhai ko krwana chathi hu o level ya a level kis class k bad kiya jata hy plzzzzzzzzzzzz help me coz mujhe es k baray mai ni pta plz ap kouch help kre ap to o level kr b rhe hyn

    • i think we can't go directly in First year bcoz board of 10th class also matters and
the esult is considred afterwars also

  6. the students with A levels are much more knowledgeful than f sc.but f.sc. students get much more marks so they get maximum admissions. the seats for medical as wellas for engineering be reserved for a levels. I want my child to go for a levels but now I m confused please tell me the right path. yours sincerely Babar Ehsan

    • i am a o level student…my teacher told me that the entry test of universities are all based on f sc but a level is a much better system for education..he said I should do my A levels after that prepare the entry test from f sc books and it will be alot easier for A level student to understand f sc books..

    • You are wrong.. In my experience the mathematical understanding of talented FSc students is far better then A levels students. Many FSc students develop the ability to understand abstract mathematical phenomenon which i have never seen A level students develop

    • A levels is much more better than your child because it helps him in many ways. And don't forced your child for doing A levels first ask him what he want to do

  7. rite now i can go in matric or olevels and i want to become a very good doctor in my country(pakistan) tell me please which option in the following is better for me:
    1.do olevels then f.s.c
    2.do matric then f.s.c
    3.do o and a levels
please post a reply as the answer of urs would be helpfull for me please reply
    i am confused ………………..

    • if u want 2 be a doctor in pakistan then you must opt matric stream but if u want 2 go abroad i prefer o &a levels

    • Dear abdul hanan,
See there are 2 things which people are not discussing 1 is the one more year in o levels if u do o levels u'll b wasting one year and the 2nd thing is equilancy, most of the universities require equilancy, where your % decreases by 11-13 % which is one of the shortcoming of opting for o-a levels. Apart from the entrance test your % is also considered. Less than A's in a levels will put u in trouble. Decision is yours!

    • oh yeah its a good choice to do olevels and then go for Fsc as i am 94% sure i'll inshallah do the same.
      yours sincerely,
      Uswa

  8. i am in matric and my concepts pretty good i think it does not matter in which system r u it always depends on the nature of the student
i am not restricted 2 my syllabus books i also study gcse books
at home i try 2 solve questions of D4 mathematics and about 80% of questions i do r right (mathematics lover)

    • U r very right, it depends on u and the teacher. My Children are in Camb system but there are many teachers who compel them to rotify the books. In this condition , I feel that Matric system is better for us when we have no qualified teachers in schools, and then they also ask for tuitions at very high rate.

    • It is very good that you study other books than Matric course books as well. The thing is there are many other students as talented as you but less eager to study extra. I f they are taught in "O-Level" environment, then their intellectual development will be great but if they opt for Matriculation, their minds will not develop, rather they will rust. After O-levels, one can do F.Sc. not because F.Sc has equal quality educ. as A-Levels, but because conversion of grades after A-levels becomes much more UNFAIR(I know the facts).

  9. O level and A level is far better. I’m doing my A levels and I’m in my ‘second year’ as you would call it. Prestigious medical schools like Aga Khan has more students from the A level background. Seeing the recent results published by the Punjab board, do you really think you can trust the F.Sc system? My seniors have gotten admissions into Aga Khan, UET, KMC in Peshawar and well there are hundreds of other A level students getting admissions in other medical and engineering colleges across Pakistan. There should be no compromise in education; financial abilities shouldn’t be a concern. I know people who come from poor backgrounds but are still enrolled in the British System.

Whether it’s A level or F.Sc, a hard working and determined student does get into a medical or engineering college. I expect better from you people as you guys use internet. Anybody who uses internet in Pakistan is educated and well equipped to afford A level.

Sirf 2 saal hain. You wanna cram through it or actually build on your or your child’s intellect? The choice is yours…

  10. This is wrong. There should be no compromise in education

  11. i think O Level is better than matricullation bcz it is a conceptual study and provides a lot of knowledge

  12. if a pakistani wants to become a heart specialist what should he do?matric or olevels,if he wants to go abroad and doing his doctor job what would he do?

  13. IBA jesay institute main O-level and A-level walay students aram se admission le letay hain coz un k paas ik to knowledge hoti hai….dosri un ka english achi hoti hai.. communication main bhi wo achay hotay hain ……. and wo groom howay hotay
F.Sc walay jo top k students hotay hain wo achay hotay hain jo average students hotay hain wo bicharay bus bicharay hotay hain………
ye bhi masla hai agar local system k jo student hotay hain un ko to yahin admission lena hota hai
agar un ko yaha bhi admission naa milay pakistan main to wo kahan jain
cambridge system walo k paas 2 option hotay hain pakistan ya abroad
i must say k sab ka education system ik hona chahiye
and humaray local system k courses itne achay nahi hotay hain
cambridge system ki books main interactive way main knowledge provide kee jaati hai to is ki quality achi hai
kaash sab ka ik aur acha system hota

  14. I was doing o levels but now i have taken admission in a matric school.I think that both systems are good it only depends on you which one u choose. It does not matters that doing o levels increases your knowledge or improves your english u can do it by yourself if you tries.U can take admission in english language institutions.but it is true that o levels is free from cheating and unfair means..i got nervous after changing my decision because many people urgued me to do the o levels but my moher said not to follow others wishes and do what ever u like so now i am satisfied. tomorrow i have to go to my school for admission

    • please do tell me ur experience and which school u chosed for matric as i am also confused about the choice of school,am studying in lgs!

    • yes please am also soooooo confused,am studying o levels now n i dont know whether i should choose a levels or Fsc,well can o level n a levels students get admission in engineering colleges in pak without any mark deduction

  15. meri mother keh rahin hain ke olevel karo or heart specialist bano magar olevel is best for commerce agar men olevel kar ke bahar abroad ja kar admission lekar wahan heart specialist bano to theak ha kia?

  16. hey guyz !!! i did my o levels from beaconhouse school system and now I am doing my Fsc from punjab college. It was my own decision because most of the A levels students struggle to get admission in engineering and medical universities. Many of my friend who did A level and secured pretty good grades (A and B) failed to get admission in NUST and UET. Actually our local board really discouraged Cambridge students. They deduct their marks and more importantly entry test is also based on Fsc concepts. I think the best way is to do O levels and then go with Fsc and secure +900 marks and u can get admission in good engineering or medical university in Pakistan. But if you are pretty sure that you will get straight A*s in A levels and you also have secured astonishing grades in O level like As and A* then you can take a risk. But avoid matric!!! it really spoils your creativity and makes you rato tota. O levels is much better system based on concepts. O levels students can secure +900 marks in fsc. I got straight Bs in my O levels exams and i knew that even if I secured all A* in A level i could not get admission in any good enginnering university thats why i selected fsc and is doing pretty good here !!!!

    • very good …maashallah!!! my daughter is so confused as she has just started her first year of o levels and she is finding difficult . Can u plz tell how did u manage to divide your time for all subjects …she has taken sciences with biology….

      • thnx…..in o levels you just have to clear your concepts……. don't restrict yourself to one book only……gather information about specific topic from different medias………i just used to go through books and then practised past papers and topical. ….they are available in market…..let me tell you that practising past papers is the most important element…….she must focus on her main subjects like bio, maths, phy and chem…….they are the key subjects….as far as the other subjects are concerned you can handle them……Marking schemes are also very important they are available on different websites……i hope you get your reply…..but clearing concepts is the most essential element in O levels.

      • O levels is not difficult, infact pretty easy! You just need to keep relaxed and not get too stressed that simple concepts slip over your head! The best key to understanding, is CONCENTRATING IN CLASS and QUESTIONING YOUR TEACHERS, then go through the concepts at home!

      • i am an a level student. i have passed my exams with 5A and 3A*.I am having all the resourses (books and past papers)necessary for achieving high grades. if u want to have further assistance contact me.My mail is [email protected]

    • I know there are many sides to this debate. Everything has its pros and cons…_Currently I am a third year engineering student in a top engineering university of Pakistan (alhamdulila!) and to be honest more than 80% students here are from Matric/Intermediate. And contrary to what is being discussed, these students have excellent and i really mean EXCELLENT concepts! __The thing you guys have to understand is whether you do matric or olevel the more important thing is HOW WELL you do it. As long as you have your concepts cleared you should be confident.

      • __The university entry test checks your concepts and selects the cream of the students..those with the best skills to apply the knowledge they have learnt irrespective of whether you did OLevel or Matric. I also believe it is wrong to say that entry test is from 'Fsc books'! They are conceptual questions that require undestanding of various topics which are in both fsc and alevels

        • .__I do understand that there is a difference in both the Pakistani and Cambridge system and our universities are biased against the non-Pakistani ones due the equivalence and all that…but you know what, the Cambrige students who do make it into these universities do amazingly well!__I also do believe that Matric system does restrict your creativity and stops your analytical and problem solving skills to develop, which are soo essential in fields like engineering.__

          • I did Matric too but I did it from AKU-EB (Aga Khan Board) and alhamdulila alhamdulila I am very glad for what i chose….__AKU board has examinations and syllabus on the pattern of the Cambridge system (OLevel Books, Exam answer on the booklet, no loose sheets allowed, computerized checking, fair system, cheating not tolerated, unseen questions, focus on structured objective questions insted of rata-type essay questions or proofs) The best thing is that no equivalence is required for it and it is much more economical than the Olevel/Alevels. For those who have schools affiliated with Aga Khan Board in your area I would strongly recommend to consider this option. (Their website is examinationboard dot aku dot edu)__And please to remember that no matter what you choose in the end be steadfast on it and DO NOT look back. You have selected what you have and now its time to work hard and do your best. Just do your best and to Allah leave the rest! :)__Best of luck to all of you!_Regards_Maryam__

    • hammmad if ur talking about the universities like NUST and UET then let me clear you that they require only 60% marks what left is the entry test u have to clear that..so according to me this point is not valid at all….

  17. i think matric is better because you get only 934 marks in o levels while you get more that 1000 marks in matric

    • Well that's a bad reason to compare the two. If you get 1000 in matric, the percentage is 100%. If you get 934 in o'levels, the percentage is still 100%. In reality you will lose more marks per mistake in matric than in o'levels, because the lesser the total marks, the lesser will be the marks cut per every mistake.

  18. If you do 0 levels and A levels then you cannot easily get admission in engineering and biological fields but after o and a levels can one go aroad for engineering and biological fields is that better ???

  19. Who said anything about “cramming”?

I prefer Matric to O’levels because

1- It’s much cheaper and you don’t have

    to waste any money

2- Professional colleges in this country

are purely based on ur Matric result

3- I think that after doing O’levels and

getting an equivalent really affects ur performance

4- Plus the main concepts of both are the same

    • o'level is not only about wasting money…its about gaining wisdom………..choose o'level if you study for getting wisdom

    • Ya…that's true matric is really (cramming)….u believe or not …..m frm Apsacs Sialkot …frm grade one to seventh my friends had always crammed but now they hav choosed O levels …cause they want to make their concepts…..

      • N one more thing Mr Hamza ….if someone cannot afford expenses of O levels he/she would not think about doing that…understood

  20. We have to promote our vernacular and system of education that has been here since birth of Pakistan. Improvement is desirable to cater and promote our social set-up. Please do not burden children with massive expensive education that is more of do-alike fashion.

  21. Thanks everyone for ur suggestions n discussions…….i'm currently doing o'levels n i planned to do a'levels.but after reading all of this….i'm really thinking of doing f.sc…….well lets see it all depends on time n circumstances

  22. I myself have suffered from serious dilemma and am writing just to tell what i had experienced. Right now , i m doing o-levels and find it very very helpful.I seriously am a 'paisay bachao' type of person and firstly hesitated to opt for d o-levels due 2 d expenses which i thought would prove quite high. However , THANKS 2 ALLAH I found my choice a good one!.O-level iz just a wonderful opportunity if u really is a hardworking person !. Surely O-LEVEL is a confidence boosting platform, providing opportunity for a stronger ,wider and helpful base 2 build brighter future on .If u think of expenses that might prove to be too much so just try to understand k K-G sae lae kar grade 8th tak jo kharcha studies ka aya wo Rs 7 lakh tak ka agar farz karu hai aur ab agae matriculation mae agar mazeed ek lakh ka kharch hai tu kuch aur paisae add kar k (4 example)50,000 Rs aur add kar k agar saara ab tak lagaya paisa sahi maino mae wasool hu raha hai tu kya bura hai? o-level karna phir koi luxurious option tu na hua.!. Though ,is baat mae koi doubt nahi hai k parhnae walay bachae Matriculation mae b khoob behtreen parh k agae barhtae hai lekin agar kuch behtar cheez ya opportunity mil rahi hai tu why not exploit?.Ab raha books ka kharcha tu ek hi bar past papers aur reference books milla k rs15000 tak ka kharch ata hai jo aj kal k lehaz sae reasonable hai! bas saahi school choosa karna aur mazeed lugoon sae consult karna buhat zarrori hai khas tor sae un students sae jo khud o-level kar chukae hon!.atahis is what i believe and have observed but do ask 4 other person's opinion and don't just count on what i have written ! this iz just an attempt made 2 help and does not really means 2 bother anyone , any way! . One more thing is that o-level has nothing 2 do with fsc or admission in medical or engineering colleges!. however do gather more information before any final decision.
I m sorry if any of d written stuff bothered anyone any way! just an attempt made 4 help !Bet of Luck for all.May with ALMIGHTY ALLAH'S HELP AND GRACE u choose just the bet!!
    from your well-wisher! 🙂

  23. I think O levels should be the Pakistan’s Education system. You can see Singapore which too have O levels as their Education system and they are very much developed by using this system. Matric is cramming. O levels student have more knowledge then Matric student. I recommend for O levels. 🙂

  24. Fsc is better then A levels, For people who want to stay in pakistan. I am an A level student and i repent every bit. i have a month to go for the entry tests amd its impossible to learn all of Fsc in this ahort time! And btw to all those people who think A level is more conceptual… I think FSc is better, their books are really interesting ! I never thought i would say that ….

  25. Asslam o alaikum ,my friends,i m a doctor, i was thinking about putting my children in o level but after reading this i have changed my mind to let them go straight for matric, they are doing good in this system. If it is only getting admission abroad you can get it after matric or fsc. thanks Be Pakistani & study and EXCELL IN pakistani system

  26. i am a student of o level i have finished my o level this year and waiting for result.MY PREVIOUS RESULT WAS 3B,s. CAN ANYBODY SUGGEST ME WHICH IS BETTER FOR ME A LEVEL OR FSC? AND WHY? I HAVE TO DO ENGINEERING IN FUTURE. SO PLZ GUIDE ME AS YOUR BROTHER. WAITING FOR YOUR SUGGESTION

    • Dear Ali

Although A level is better then FSC, but people do not find out the problem of the system. The main problem with O & A level student is teaching. I am sure teachers are not competant by any means to educate the student. There level does not match with the subject. School is providing a pre-defined file to teacher for thier subjects that they follow and try to go through with in given period and thats all.

Therefore competant teachers are not available for O & A Leavel student. Further primery education in Beaconhouse and City School is so worse that does not allows students to get higher education. Althouh some students gets better markes but due highly paid attention of their parents who arrange many teachers for tution. Both Beacon House and City School are practically faild they are doing only business not giving quality education by any means.

  27. Comment karne se pehlay app ko pata hona chaheye jo aap bol rahe ho ye sahi hai ya ghalat.o level maen concept hai yeah i know very well leken jo confidence hai aur english hai ye aaj kal sab ki achi ho sakti hai.
This is the best answer for " guest" who got posted this 26 weeks ago.
Matric/fsc ke students main bhi confidence hota hai aur knowlegde bi hota hai.
They are not bechare and mashallah i got 497 marks in 9th class and im working hard for my part2.tum logo mein attitude hai oxford ki books ka.hum logo ki books main bhi additional knowlegde hota hai you can check it.

  28. I want to become a Chartered Accountant (CA Inter), should I go through Matric system or through O'level and A'leve (cambridge).

  29. I think O/A level is best it gives more knowledge than matric, and it is very easy than matric matric get us pressurized to get 75% in O levels we r not pressurized so i think O/A level is best.

  31. i've choosen levels….but after reading thx em getting ideas in my mind vague…..the first and last thing, evithing depends upon hardwork…u wanna achieve sumthing?forget aviwun around and listen to ur heart…matriculation is so called ''ratta system''whea as olevels students have bold concepts evn if they dont get admission in gud govt. universities…bt matric stream is promoted in our country thats y students doin matric successfully achieve admissions…n the biggest issue about doing levels is that after doin olevels if we do fcs thea is a process of marks deduction…wch furthr discourage people to go for levels…SO FOR MEDICAL=MATRIC N FOR OTHER FIELDS…GO FOR LEVELS…!

  32. i hd done o levels wid 4 a* and 4 a's
now wat should i do to get admission in a medical college in pakistan ???

    • You'll figure it out eventually.. Ur experience will guide.. Abhi time hai larki pehlae achae grades sae o levels kar lo 🙂

  33. this article help me alot because i was so confused about olevels and matric …………………..

  34. um yeah I am a matric student about to give my last papers( I'm in the 10 th grade). I've decided to do engineering but I want to opt for A levels. I've compared the physics books of both olevels and matric and they have exactly the same topics. My concepts are pretty clear too. And yes I want to get admission in Canada. Its not a finacial urden either, as I also have Canadian nationality. Can someone please tell me why so many people are trying to discourage me by saying it is too hard and I will not be able to get good grades. And if u think A level is hard for me then WHY. plus is it possible for a matric student to get admission in a levels??????

  35. Even I am in O level and I too think it is much better! It is wonderful how you are being taught and delivered the concepts creatively instead of just plain RATTA na d no understanding…! I feel really sad at the educational system in our country, that O/ A level students are being treated as INFERIORS by cutting their marks and yet they say this system is widening gaps??

Simply, there should not be any distinctions between the two streams….! Some people are good at memorizing they can opt for matriculation while those who have creative minds and grasp concepts can take O levels!

    • V all are sorry at our local educational system which has failed and deteriorated years ago but the fact is that systems don't run creative minds! It's will and curiosity that does .. Cambridge system has never priven to b a miracle, producing geniuses always but it's really the student's efforts … 🙂

  36. i prefer o levels ! because it opens your mind as compare to matric !! so i suggest people to go for o level in o level there are two options either you can take addmission in any college of pakistan it only depends on your your knowledge you can take addmisson in any college and o level increse your knowledge they give us right path way and second option is to going abroad !! so what i think that o level is better tha matricullation choice is yours!!

  37. Hi there, I discovered your blog by way of Google while looking for a related topic, your site got here up, it appears to be like
great. I have bookmarked it in my google bookmarks.

Hi there, just became aware of your blog via Google, and found that it’s really informative. I am gonna be careful for brussels. I’ll
be grateful when you proceed this in future. Many people will likely
be benefited from your writing. Cheers!

    • Now that is a thing i could relate myself with, i have the same problem and being an o level student myself, i would advice that you should go for o level. Because here, we are being taught in such a way that we just don' t cram or memorize things from text books, but we actually do understand it and than ALHAMDULILAH answer questions based on understanding quite easily… Matriculation is not bad either but craming is what rules there…. So i belief you should consider doing o level!

  38. m really really very confusedd…can any body help me which 1 i shuld choose o'levels or matric? which 1 is easier?
i want to join army in futuree so which 1 will help me in this case?

    • choose matric, its simple and good and go to nust army divisiona and go to pma after that,
choose your favourite field in nust

  39. hey anybody plz guide me what to do…..my father preferred to do matriculation bt the upper comments makes my thinking confused……anybody help me because i have no time plz plz plz…..

  40. guyz i need strong recommendation plz suggest me im studing in city school and doing 0 levels but im finding too difficult and im deciding to choose matric so what should i do tell me plz my plan is to do fsc pre engineering tell me and 1 more reason maths is damn tuff in 0 levels

    • If you are finding o level difficult, so switch to matric if you think you could do better in that system. As a matter of fact, i think you will find matriculation easier now since your understanding level is now advanced due to your time and experience at cambridge system. Well, it is still just an advice, do what you find easier… Good luck

  41. Helo Everyone! i have a serious problem with my studies. actually my plan for my later studies are some different. i want to do MD instead of mbbs and even MD from harvard university and wanna go for heart specialization in oxford university. what should i prefer o levels or matric. i am in 8 matric but still no satisfied. what should i do?

  42. AOA. Well, many people say that matric and fsc students have no concepts and they just cram. I disagree, because it depends upon the child wether he studies conceptually or not. No doubt , types of questions asked in matric exams are mostly non-conceptual, but it doesn’t mean that the child has surely no concept…

  43. AOA. Well, many people say that matric and fsc students have no concepts and they just cram. In my opinion, it depends upon the child wether he studies conceptually or not. No doubt , types of questions asked in matric exams are mostly non-conceptual, but it DOESN’T mean that the child has surely no concept…

  44. i m in 8 and i have to decide which board is better for me i m studying in city school, hyderabad, pakistan plz plz plz suggest

  45. Now I am doing O'level and want some comments from you that what should I chose F.S.C or A'levels.I want to be doctor which is better!
Give me some suggestion about this.

  46. I did my olevels which was more than a decade ago and then went on to do my FA. l remember zilch from my FA and BA studies whereas all that I learnt in olevels still stays with me and helps me out each and every day and has made me a smarter person. It helped raise my iq level several notches. O level changes the way you think, talk and interpret things. My o level education is my best asset and to think I am just a housewife, imagine how helpful it would be for those who are planning on to become professionals

  47. i am confused about my decision and my father decision.but i dont want to stand opposite to my father decision.but i want to take o level.what can i do plzzzzzz help me

  48. olevels is far much better than matriculation because ive seen Fsc books taking extracts from olevels book

  49. Matric is far far better then o levels. U wil regret o levels later. I have done matric and Fsc n believe me I m pretty good in studies n enjoying my life. Think Yourself Fsc is Pakistani system n matric as wel so after doin o level which is a British system will it be easy for u to do Fsc a Pakistani system

  50. Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide, and is an international passport to progression and success. Developed over 25 years ago, it is tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide.Cambridge IGCSE provides a diverse curriculum catering to 21st century learning. The strength of Cambridge IGCSE qualifications is internationally recognised and has provided an international pathway for our students to continue their studies around the world

so i think IGCSE olevel is better

  51. hey guyzzz….em going to do o level but i want to be a doctor…n i thnk i can get very very good grade at this but em confused that after doing it i should do a level or fsc…and if i do A level will it help me to go through a good medical collage in pakistan…plz plz help me..give me a rply soon..!!

  52. I am a student of IGCSE alhamduliah….. i do not know what field should I opt for…
I have got Physics , ICT , Chemistry and literature as optional subjects …and urdu , Islamiat , Language , P.ST, Maths as compulsory subjects ………….. what to do after completing my IGCSE …. A levels or any other field?

  53. I complete my matric and now i want to go with a levels .but its not possible so wht can i do can i first give o levels last year exam then go with a levels .pls suggest me and o levels means 9'10and 11 right so can i give last year exams of o levels

  54. Matric fsc need a full makeover . I hope it will happen and our system will become best in the world. Right now they r in a terrible state of disrepair. Don't know about matric as I am o level but fsc sucks. Tried it was disappointed to say the least.

  55. first of all i would like to say that this article is biased

apart from a few exceptions (which have been mentioned in this article) students who once get a taste of the O/A levels pattern would prefer the cambridge system rather than the matriculation/fsc system

Being a student of the british system i have realized many thing which makes the cambridge system stand out and appeal to me more than the matric system:

~it is fair and very student friendly (no safarish no bribes)
~it is better as compared to our traditional rote learning because it consists of genuine concept
~marking is done fairly and purely on merit

but when you look at our matriculation/fsc system:

~ every year there are scandals of cheating and paper leaking
~practicals are a mere formality in FSC (involving free marks being given) while in A levels practical are really tough and related to real life experiments meaning a better breading ground for future scientists, engineers and doctors

Students in the cambridge system must need to have knowledge from the start of O levels(esp for science and business groups) to A levels in order to qualify with flying colours. on the other hand if you ask FSC students about what they learnt in 9th class i am pretty sure that they would be bewildered and would not be able to answer.

Although O/A level students are greatly disadvantaged when applying for universities in pakistan and in entry tests but they are better learned.

Not only is their english is far better (trust me when i say this- if you don't believe me compare an english book of FSC/matric with the cie O level syllabus on the internet-code 1123 – surely you will see an enormous difference) but they have stronger concepts in sciences.

trust me i have gone through this!

don't take me as a rebel to my country and its education I have commented on mere facts.

  56. m doin O-LEVELS abroad with my parents and I want to be a doctor. after reading this article and many other articles too, i've decided to gp pakistan for fsc. I hope M doin right 🙂
